Back to School at Malaika

7.09.2017, Lubumbashi, DRC – TMB is proud to be a long-time partner of Malaika, an NGO operating in the field of education in the Congo.

Malaika means “angel” in Swahili. The mission of Malaika (formally known as the Georges Malaika Foundation) is to empower Congolese girls and their communities through education. Based in New York, the non-profit operates in Kalebuka, in the Southeastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

For several years now, TMB has had the privilege of sponsoring six participating students of the Malaika Foundation programme namely Gabriella, Jeanne, Lisette, Louise, Maguy, and Niclette. We are very proud of the latest results they achieved:

Gabriella : 78.8%
Jeanne : 89.1%
Lisette : 78.4%
Louise : 92.0%
Maguy : 79.5%
Niclette : 80.9%

For the school year 2017-2018, Malaika is welcoming 23 new students, and is now offering free high-quality education, including sports, to 275 girls. Malaika’s challenge, starting with these local activities, is to give the members of the communities the opportunity to take control of their environment by becoming actors of change.

Vogue magazine published an article on Noëlla Coursaris Musunka, founder and director of Malaika, that you can access here.
