NBA player Bismack Biyombo is running a basketball camp in Lubumbashi
9.07.2014, Lubumbashi, DRC – For the second consecutive year, the famous NBA player Bismack Biyombo is in Lubumbashi to take part in the Bismack basketball camp.
Aware of the immense importance of sport and the role of positive models in the education of young people, TMB is happy to support the event. Sports brands Jordan and Wilson are also supporting the project.
The Bismack basketball camp is taking place in Lubumbashi from 9 to 12 July. It gathers 100 teenagers aged 14-18 years old.
Following on from the success of the first camp which took place in Lubumbashi in 2013, this year sees the Bismack basketball camp being held in both Kinshasa and Lubumbashi. Plans for the 2015 camp include bringing the event to Goma.
The objective of the Bismack basketball camp is to promote the game of basketball and its core values as a tool to accomplish life goals. This initiatives aims at giving young people in the province and across the country opportunities to pursue their education and to develop their sporting careers.
Several camp participants were awarded scholarships to pursue their studies in Lubumbashi and also in the USA. Indeed, two participants of the last camp obtained scholarships to join US schools and have left Lubumbashi some months ago to pursue their studies in the United States.
Bismack Biyombo Sumba is a Congolese professional basketball player born in Lubumbashi. He plays center with the Charlotte Bobcats. He is currently the only player from the DRC playing in the NBA.
With the help of Bismack himself and coaches, the camp attendees are taught the basic skills of basketball, and perform endurance drills.
Bismack is a model and an inspiration for young Congolese. The Bismack basketball camp aims to develop, structure and promote basketball and the values of sport in Katanga and across the DRC.
