‘Regards’ Exhibition at Le Monde des Flamboyants
18.10.2018, Kinshasa, DRC – TMB is pleased to invite you to our new exhibition titled ‘REGARDS’ which is being held at Le Monde des Flamboyants from Friday 19 October 2018 to Sunday 18 November 2018. The official opening of the exhibition will be held on 19 October, at 6.00 pm.
Le Monde des Flamboyants is the permanent cultural centre of TMB, housed at its regional headquarters in Kinshasa.
TMB is delighted to host this art exhibition, which highlights works from six Congolese artists: Babanzanga, Kudimbana, Mbwanga, Tamba, Tankwey and Vatunga. Isabelle Duvigneaud, Director of Le Monde des Flamboyants, explains that “these artists, painters and sculptor, place men, women, and their concerns at the heart of their exhibited works, each representing them in a different light and with personal techniques and feelings.”
Babanzanga’s portraits on a black background show the excesses and decadence of humankind. Kudimbana represents mainly female characters and aims here to enhance the African identity through hairstyles and traditional clothing. Mbwanga illustrates in his own way the consequences of the exploitation of commodities on communities. Tamba develops a fusional relationship with the wood he works and represents his city, his daily life, and the female character. Tankwey draws, on a solid background, colourful characters who, behind their smiles, hide a pain. Vatunga finally, with his particular technique, paints faces composed of superimposed features and presents a human being who is disintegrating under the pressure of society.
The exhibition is free and open to all members of the public, Monday to Friday, from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and on Saturday, from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm.
