Three young Congolese basketball players win US scholarships
12.10.2015, Kinshasa, DRC – TMB is delighted to announce that three young basketball players who participated in this year’s Bismack Biyombo basketball summer camp have obtained sport-study scholarships in the United States.
Daril, Jerry and Hugo received their visas to continue their education and to further develop their basketball skills in the US.
The announcement was made at a press conference held in Kinshasa, at the ASK, on Saturday, September 26, where the players and their coaches met journalists.
Bismack Biyombo basketball camps were organized last July in Goma, Kinshasa and Lubumbashi with the support of TMB.
Bismack Biyombo Sumba is a Congolese professional basketball player born in Lubumbashi. Bismack joined the Toronto Raptors last summer, having previously played center with the Charlotte Bobcats. He is currently one of two players from the DRC playing in the NBA. Bismack is a model and an inspiration for young Congolese.
The objective of the Bismack Biyombo basketball tour of the DRC, and related training camps, was to promote the game of basketball and its core values as a tool to accomplish life goals, an approach TMB seeks to support and encourage. The initiative aims at giving young people across the country opportunities to pursue their education and to develop their sporting careers.
Today, with this wonderful news, our motto ‘We are the future’ makes perfect sense.
