TMB awarded Best Bank in DRC by EMEA Finance for a record ninth consecutive year

30.10.2019, Kinshasa, DRC – Trust Merchant Bank has been recognised for the ninth consecutive year as the “Best Bank in the Democratic Republic of Congo” by EMEA Finance. The Bank is also extremely proud to have won the pan-African “Award for Financial Inclusion” for a third time. TMB will receive both awards on Tuesday 5 December 2019, at the Law Society in London, the prestigious venue for the African Banking Awards 2019 awards ceremony.

The conferring judges recognised TMB’s ongoing success with Pepele Mobile, and noted that the Bank boasts an unrivalled network in the DRC. The Awards Committee was impressed with TMB’s very strong financial performance and significant and ongoing investment programme.

In recognising TMB as the Best Bank in the DRC for the ninth year in a row, the judges noted that TMB’s ethos of continuous investment and financial inclusion for all Congolese is embedded in its culture and is what drives the Bank’s success.

In welcoming the achievement, Oliver Meisenberg, TMB CEO, added that “TMB’s success is based on many factors, not least the professionalism and conduct of staff, a prudent credit risk culture, and an unerring desire to contribute to the growth and development of our home, Congo”.

Having won the pan-African Award for Financial Inclusion for a third time, and being the only Congolese bank to ever have won the award, EMEA Finance noted that TMB has prioritised expansion activities on rural part of the country, areas where fewer than five in a hundred have access to formal banking services. The judges added that since TMB was founded, its success has been inextricably intertwined with Congo’s prosperity; and that this is a bank that understands its responsibility to the community, and helps to address the economic, social, and environmental challenges that the DRC faces.

Yannick Mbiya, Executive Director TMB, added that “it is no exaggeration to say that Financial Inclusion is inscribed in TMB’s DNA. Our track record in extending financial services right across the country is unrivalled, and we continue to invest in delivering banking services to communities even in the most remote parts of the Congo. With PEPELE Mobile, our highly innovative mobile banking service, supported by an agency banking network that numbers well over one thousand outlets, and continues to grow rapidly, TMB can deliver an array of banking products to a target population of millions.”
