TMB awarded Best Bank in DRC by EMEA Finance for the seventh consecutive year
31.10.2017, Kinshasa, DRC – Trust Merchant Bank has been recognised for the seventh consecutive year as the “Best Bank in the Democratic Republic of Congo” by EMEA Finance. The Bank is also extremely proud to have won the “Award for Financial Inclusion” for the second time, having previously won the pan-African award in 2015. TMB will receive both awards on Thursday 7 December, at the Law Society in London, the prestigious venue for the African Banking Awards 2017 awards ceremony.
The awarding judges recognised TMB’s financial strength, prudent approach to business, an ongoing and significant level of investment, and commitment to innovation and fintech, amongst the reasons for its continued success in the awards programme. EMEA Finance noted that the Bank’s substantial investment in developing market leading products, distribution channels, and service levels, distinguished successfully TMB’s offer in a crowded market.
In recognising TMB as the Best Bank in the DRC for the seventh year in a row, the judges noted that TMB is today Congo’s ‘universal bank’, and celebrated the Bank’s dedication to providing its services to as many Congolese as possible.
In welcoming the achievement, Oliver Meisenberg, TMB CEO, noted “our success is testament to a strong and capable team, committed to providing professional, relationship-based banking services, and reflects the hard won loyalty of our clients. We understand the Congo, our local insight allows us to see the many opportunities that do in fact exist in an admittedly challenging environment.”
Having won the pan-African Award for Financial Inclusion for a second time, and being the only Congolese bank to ever have won the award, Yannick Mbiya, Executive Director TMB, added that “it is no exaggeration to say that Financial Inclusion lies at the very heart of TMB’s business model. Our track record in extending financial services right across the country is unrivalled, and we continue to invest in delivering banking services to communities even in the most remote parts of the Congo. With PEPELE Mobile, our award-winning mobile banking service, TMB can deliver an array of banking products to a target population of millions. PEPELE Mobile is supported by an agency banking network that numbers almost five hundred outlets, and will multiply in size during the next eighteen months.”
The success at EMEA Finance’s African Banking Awards follows in the steps of TMB’s achievements in May of this year, at the African Banker Awards, where TMB was recognised as the Best Bank in Central Africa 2017. TMB proudly represented the DRC at the highly influential awards ceremony, which was held in Ahmedabad, India, alongside the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank.
