TMB Wins at the 2017 African Banker Awards
TMB has won the award for Best Bank in Central Africa at the 2017 African Banker Awards, held on 23 May in Ahmedabad, India. The win marks the second time TMB has won the award, the first award win was in 2014.
The Awards, held annually on the fringes of the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank, celebrate excellence in banking and finance on the African continent. TMB is the only Congolese bank to date to have been recognised at the African Banker Awards.
The awarding judges were impressed with TMB’s continued prudent growth, the Bank’s strong balance sheet, its commitment to developing branches right across the country, and the ongoing expansion of Pepele Mobile, TMB’s revolutionary mobile banking service. The 2017 Best Bank in Central Africa award also recognises TMB’s ability to respond quickly to clients’ needs by keeping decision making processes streamlined, localised, and customer focused.
Oliver Meisenberg, CEO of TMB, welcomed the award win and international recognition of the success of TMB’s commitment to extending financial inclusion and of its mobile banking product Pepele Mobile.
Commenting on this year’s awards, Omar Ben Yedder, Publisher of the African Banker, noted that “financial inclusion is possibly the single most important priority so that we can mobilise funds and make this capital work effectively. Banks are the centre of this and are rising to the challenge”.
