‘Wildish Gambit – Le monde imaginaire des écoliers kinois’ Exhibition at Le Monde des Flamboyants
31.10.2019, Kinshasa, DRC – TMB is pleased to invite you to our new exhibition titled ‘Wildish Gambit – Le Monde imaginaire des écoliers kinois’ (The Imaginary World of Kinshasa’s schoolchildren) which is being held at Le Monde des Flamboyants, in Kinshasa, from Thursday 31 October to Friday 15 November. The official opening of the exhibition will be held on Thursday 31 October, at 6.00 pm.
Le Monde des Flamboyant is the permanent cultural centre of TMB, housed at its regional headquarters in Kinshasa.
TMB is delighted to host this art exhibition, which highlights works from the artist and photographer Roberta Marroquin. Roberta is a Mexican photographer, originally from Monterrey, in the state of New Leon. Since 2008, she has lived in New York, where she developed her vision through documentary, artistic and editorial photography.
The Wildish Gambit – Le monde imaginaire des écoliers kinois project is the result of the meeting between Roberta Marroquin and Sylvia van den Brink, founder and president of the Foundation En Classe (in the Classroom). The project not only aims to raise funds, but also to create a link, as close as possible, in order to transmit all the joy and the emotion that the Foundation En Classe creates amongst the children of Kinshasa.
The mission of Foundation En Classe, Improving Schools, Building futures, born in 2007, in Congo, is to improve the quality of children’s education. To date, thanks to the association, more than 16,000 children have accessed education and 111 classrooms have been renovated.
Wildish Gambit – Le monde imaginaire des écoliers kinois is a series of images showing a daring juxtaposition of elements that wander and create incomprehensible contexts between them, far from reason. Each image is a complex invitation to a surreal world dominated by a flora and fauna that manifests, splendid and immutable, in front of the human presence. Children are the main elements in Wildish Gambit. Each work is a tribute to children’s imagination and creativity, to this immeasurable desire to create and discover a world that makes sense, little by little.
The exhibition is free and open to all members of the public, Monday to Friday, from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and on Saturday, from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm.
